Permit OVH Monitoring using IPTables, Shorewall or UFW under Linux

If you have dedicated servers with OVH in Beauharnois (BHS) and are setting up a host firewall (which you should be doing!) you will need to either disable OVH’s ping monitoring via their management portal, or allow ICMP from OVH monitoring servers.

Modification of each of the snippets below is required for use.  To use replace the xxx.xxx.xxx with the first three octets of the IP address of your OVH server.  For example, if my IP was 192.145.22.99, I would replace the xxx.xxx.xxx in the snippets below with 192.145.22

IPTables

The following can be placed in a startup script, or modified and added to your iptables ruleset

Shorewall

Place the following in /etc/shorewall/rules (under Debian, ymmv)

[snippet id=”118″ title=”Shorewall: Permit OVH Monitoring in Beauharnois (BHS)” height=”0″ line_numbers=”true”]

UFW

(Coming Soon)
